In brief
This site is a picture-and-text diary, not a business. It uses no analytics, advertising or social-media services, builds no usage profiles and embeds no third-party content; even the fonts are served by the site itself. Personal data arises only where it is technically necessary to deliver the pages — or when you write.
Hosting and connection data
The site runs on Microsoft Azure (Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, Dublin) in the Frankfurt am Main data centre, Germany; the pictures are delivered from there too. It is technically maintained by CARECOM Consulting Harald Mühlhoff, Wetter (Germany). When a page is opened, the Azure platform processes the connection data this requires: IP address, date and time, the address requested, the previously visited page and information about browser and operating system.
No access logs with IP addresses are kept. For error and performance analysis, Azure Application Insights records technical operating data (address requested, time, response time, error messages); the IP address is only used for a rough location and is not stored. This operating data is deleted automatically after 90 days.
Under Swiss law, Germany offers an adequate level of data protection. Microsoft may also process data in the USA; Microsoft Corporation is certified under the Data Privacy Framework.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies for analytics or advertising. Three cookies are technically necessary; they disappear when you close the browser and contain nothing about you:
.AspNetCore.Antiforgery.…— security cookie of the ASP.NET Core web framework: a random, encrypted check value that protects forms such as the sign-in from being submitted in your name by another site.ARRAffinityandARRAffinitySameSite— set by the hosting platform Microsoft Azure so that your requests reach the same server; they contain only an identifier of that server, the same for everyone.
Signing in to maintain the site
Signing in is meant only for the people who maintain the site. It involves the e-mail address and a one-time code; to prevent abuse, a shortened hash of the IP address is kept. After signing in, a cookie holds the session (.AspNetCore.Cookies, 14 days, extended while in use); while signing in with an e-mail code, cc-otp-pending is briefly stored in the browser (35 minutes, contains the e-mail address entered).

If you write to kontakt@gedankenfotografie.ch, your message and address are used only to reply and are not passed on.
Your rights
You may request information about your personal data, have it corrected or deleted, and object to its processing. Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies, you also have the right to restriction of processing and to data portability. An e-mail to the address above is enough. You can lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU, with the supervisory authority of your country.
